This is a great desktop docking station that has everything you could need for your laptop! You can even connect your charging cable to this dock so that you essentially don't lose any laptop USB sockets overall but gain a whole load of new sockets to attach different devices to! It's very well made and easy to use without any extra software needed. Would recommend!

4.0 out of 5 stars Why get a hub if it doesn't have every port you could possibly want?

It's a solid little hub. I bought it to use with my 2017 MacBook Pro. I don't see why one would get a hub if it doesn't have every possible port one could use. Otherwise, you may end up needing more than one hub. That's why I went for this one. I opted for the one that had two HDMI ports, rather than extra usb ports. You never know!

The ports themselves all work, and everything fits tight. If you're having trouble getting the headphone port to work, you need to change the audio output to "USB PnP Audio Device." If you do that, the audio comes through great. The casing on the hub feels like aluminum, and though it will get warm to the touch, it doesn't get outrageously hot.

It also comes with a soft case, nothing fancy. I'll include a picture. I'll also include a picture of the hub next to my computer so you can get a feel for its size. For context, it's a 15-inch screen.

It's one of the most expensive hubs, but it does everything you could want and works like a charm!

I have had this docking station now for just over a fortnight and has performed admirably in that time. Upfront, I don’t have any Mac computers, so I will be looking at this from the Windows PC perspective. It’s not always easy to reach around to the back of the PC when plugging items in and out. All I needed was a Thunderbolt/USB4 extension cable in order to locate the docking station in a more appropriate place.

This docking station arrives in a rather plain printed box along with a simple user manual. To get the maximum benefits from this docking station you really do need thunderbolt on your motherboard or use a Thunderbolt add-in card. Fortunately, my motherboard has Thunderbolt 3 on board. If you don’t have Thunderbolt, then you can only use some parts of the docking station.

A word of warning, when using an extension cable: you have to use a genuine Thunderbolt/USB4 cable. A standard USB-C cable will not pass on all the connections needed. A USB-C charging cable or PD cable will only pass on USB2 speeds and only the USB2 sockets will be available to use.

There are three display ports, two HDMI and one VGA. I haven’t tested the VGA output as I don’t have any old VGA units. The two HDMI ports work fine and can output 1920x1080@60Hz when both are in use or 3840x2160@30Hz if only one is used. These figures are fine for me as they drive the second and third monitors on my system and the main display is handles by the PCs video output.

There are two USB2 and two USB3.0 Type-A sockets. One may question the need for USB2 sockets nowadays, but some wireless adaptors used by things like mice, can work more reliably on USB2 as USB3.0 signals can interfere with the radio signal. There’s also an SD card slot and a microSD/TF card slot and these both work fine. The only downside is that you can only use one or the other at any one time.

The RJ45 Ethernet port is a 1Gbps variety and works faultlessly. There are two USB-C sockets, one offers USB3.0 data speeds while the other will only offer Power Delivery (PD) and USB2 data. Finally, on the end of the dock is a 3.5mm jack socket for audio in and out.

Personally, I think the manufacturer has missed an opportunity to offer better USB speeds than USB3.0 and could have easily offered USB3.1 Gen2.

The dock has a metal case and feels nice and sturdy. Quality is good. Price (£90) is a bit high.

Overall, good quality but a tad pricey. I hope that helps.

3.0 out of 5 stars 12-in-1.Overpriced. Better suited to MAC OS.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
I do believe this is the first product I have had from TOTU and it arrived in a retail cardboard box with a drawstring travel pouch. The hub is cased in aluminium, with a relatively short USB-C cable. Personally, I do prefer the cable to be slightly longer, as it can often be tricky setting it up with a few cables involved. Particularly when you have the heftier HDMI and DP ones. Although, it does make the hub handy for travel purposes.

Port wise, you have:

1. 2 x HDMI
2. 1 x VGA
3. 2 x USB 3.0
4. 2 x USB 2.0
5. PD
6. Ethernet
7. SD Card
8. Micro-SD Card
9. 3.5m AUX

So, the first thing to note here is that it is a 12-in-1, not a 13-in1 hub. Although it does hub a lot of ports, for me it is missing a USB-C and could do with more USB 3 and less USB 2 port, but manufacturers tend to put in the 2.0 ports to beef up the total number of ports while trying to keep the cost down. They are fine with a mouse, keyboard, etc though.

Depending on whether you are going down the Windows or Mac route, your display configuration options are going to vary. I plugged this in a modern Windows 10 laptop and 2 x 2K 32” WQHD monitors in extended display, with three separate displays. This is the weak spot of this hub, as you can only get this in 1080p. You can get 2 x 4K displays + MacBook display but the two external displays show the same image. Having just tested another hub, albeit a 9-in-1, which costs a 1/3rd less than this one, that was able to run my two external displays at 2K and would run two at 4K if I had them, plus the laptop at 1080p, this performance does fell a bit low key.

From a charging perspective, the laptop was getting about 62W from a 100W fast charging. This was perfectly adequate for that laptop.

With regards to data transfer rates of the USB 3.0 ports. This has a max rate of 5Gbps, but this is often referred to as the “theoretical” speed and I will refer to this on a lot of my reviews. The reason being that there are so many variables that can affect this and on a day-to-day basis, you are unlikely to get it. The same can be said of the USB 2.0, SD & Micro-SD ports and that is further affected by the class of card used. Even with an external NVMe drive and a USB-C port, I have only maxed out a 1Gbps on this laptop (not with this hub).

Ethernet speed was good and I did not see any drop off from my normal speeds.

With everything in and running, including charging, the hub did not really get that hot. Running this for a while, with everything plug in, plus charging the laptop, I was pleased to see that the hub was not getting too hot.

Unlike a lot of hubs I have tried, this one does not work with my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra or Galaxy Tab S7 Plus.

As with any hub, the value is in the type of ports you have and if you are going to use them and to their max performance levels. However, I do believe in buying ahead and trying to future proof yourself as much as possible. This one is certainly more tailored towards the MAC OS, than Windows. Even so, at £79.99, I do feel this is significantly overpriced for what it is. Now, at the time of writing, there is a 35% off voucher on the product page, taking the price down to £51.99, which I feel is more realistic for the spec.

I hope you found this review & photos interesting, informative, and useful. Thanks for reading.
